The Ice Hotel
Visitors are attracted from all over the world to a small village in Lapland. It is located 200 km north of the Arctic Circle in Jukkasjärvi along the Torne River. This is called the Ice Hotel which is what his name. A hotel built of ice and snow. And ‘apparently the largest in the world and the first of its kind.
The building must be done each year and much work goes into making the ice hotel, but it’s much more. It is a remarkable work of art. The process begins when winter starts in mid-November. blocks of ice are harvested from the Torne River, and it takes a team of artists from around the world to design and build this magnificent structure.
The first part of the hotel is open from mid-December with the opening of the main hall, entrance hall and the Absolut Icebar. The Ice Church is completed and the next construction will be completed by the end of December with a total of 60 rooms.
Thousands visit the ice hotel to sleep in beds of ice and snow, many of these people are couples who have used the church of ice to make marriage vows.
As spring arrives the hotel is closed for another season until they can resume work and another work of art can be produced.
